The York School Code of Conduct

We expect all members of our school community to uphold and adhere to the school’s Code of Conduct. As part of the Re-Enrolment/New Student Enrolment process, you should have reviewed The York School’s Code of Conduct prior to signing the Enrolment Contract.

The York School's (the “School”) mission is to nurture curious learners to become globally minded leaders with integrity and purpose. The School is dedicated to the education of students in a safe and caring community that embraces curiosity, challenges individuals, and encourages contribution to an inclusive community.

We recognize the wisdom in the adage “you promote what you permit”

As a school, we promote responsibility, accountability, respect, civility and academic excellence in a safe and nurturing environment. A positive school climate exists when all members of the School community feel safe, included and accepted, and actively promote positive behaviours and interactions.

The Code of Conduct goes hand in hand with our Progressive Discipline Policy. As a school, we hold students accountable when they don’t follow our Code of Conduct. As an institution of learning, we make every effort to work with our students and families to ensure there is formative learning from mistakes and opportunities for reflection.

Middle and Senior School students review the Code of Conduct each September as part of their back to school orientation.

The standards of behaviour in our Code of Conduct apply to all individuals involved in the School community – students, parents, volunteers, teachers, and other staff members – whether they are on school property, on school buses, at school-related events or activities or in other circumstances that could have an impact on the school climate.
