Welcome from the Middle School Principal

Welcome! The Middle School is a wonderful community for young people to learn and grow. The middle school years are characterized by tremendous emotional, physical, and social change and growth. At the middle school, we support this period of change with a group of caring educators who teach social-emotional skills to be self-aware, self-manage, make decisions, and navigate relationships. The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) offers students an inquiry and conceptual-based framework that nurtures curiosity and engagement with real-world issues.

At The York Middle School, the teachers are attuned to the developmental needs of 11-13-year-olds and teach to the students before their subject matter. Our faculty provides a safe place to explore new experiences and embrace challenges as growth opportunities. Each student is part of a homeroom class community where social-emotional learning and executive functioning skills are explicitly taught in an effort to support student well-being.

This Welcome Package is your reference for all the information you need before starting with us in September. I look forward to seeing you and your child in September and welcoming you in person to our community. Until then, I hope you and your family enjoy a safe and happy summer.

Sincerely,

Helen Gin
Middle School Principal
