Welcome from the Middle School Principal
Dear York School Families,
Welcome to the Middle School at The York School! Whether you're new to our community or returning, we are excited to have you with us. The Middle School is a dynamic and nurturing space where young people have the opportunity to learn, grow, and explore who they are becoming.
The middle school years are a time of tremendous emotional, physical, and social change. To support students through this important period, we have a team of caring educators who focus not only on academic learning but also on developing social-emotional skills. Our students are guided in becoming self-aware, managing their emotions, making thoughtful decisions, and building healthy relationships with others.
At The York School, our Middle Years Program (MYP) offers an inquiry-based, conceptual learning framework that encourages curiosity and helps students engage with real-world issues. Our teachers are attuned to the developmental needs of 11-13-year-olds, ensuring that each lesson and experience is crafted with the whole child in mind. They create a safe and welcoming environment where challenges are seen as opportunities for growth, and each student is part of a homeroom class community focused on social-emotional learning and executive functioning skills.
I invite you to read through our handbook and discover more information about our programs and services. It contains all the essential information you'll need as you prepare for the year ahead.
Looking forward to learning and growth together in the months ahead.
Sincerely,
Kathryn Barnes
Middle and Senior School Principal
