University Counselling
Academic & University Counselling
Our university counsellors help students choose their high school courses as part of a comprehensive education plan that leads to specific post-secondary destinations. Each student is assigned a university counsellor in grade 9, and the counsellor will follow the student’s academic journey through to graduation. Finding the best fit for post-secondary education involves identifying an institution that offers academic programs that match interests and reflect personal values, preferences, and future goals. It encompasses discovering a place where the location, residence, community, and academic offerings harmoniously combine to create a sense of belonging and comfort, thereby ensuring a truly enriching and successful university experience.
Course Selection
Course selection for the final two years of the IB Middle Years Program (Grades 9-10) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (Grades 11-12) are prescribed and include electives. Grade 9 students have one elective option, and Grade 10 students have three elective options. For Grades 11 and 12, students choose six IB diploma courses for the final two years of high school. Students make course choices to suit their individual educational goals. Students work one-on-one with their counsellor to ensure the appropriate configuration of courses meets both the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, the IB Diploma and the appropriate configuration of Grade 12 credits for admission to university.
School Registrar
The school registrar plays several key roles in assisting families and students. Specifically, they help schedule meetings with counsellors, generate transcripts, maintain student records and manage the distribution and collection of all student forms. Additionally, the registrar ensures that all students have access to Naviance, a web-based application designed to support and track a student’s academic planning during their Senior School years. This resource is available to students in Grades 9 through 12 and can be accessed through a link on YorkNet’s parent and student portal. For further details about Naviance Family Connection or to arrange a meeting with your child's counsellor, please contact Ms. Vicky Diano.
