This section is designed to help you plan for the financial requirements of sending your child or children to The York School. There are expenses beyond tuition that you will need to take into account, but not all potential costs will apply to all students. Statements of Account
Statements of account are posted on Yorknet throughout the year and reflect, not only the fee installments outlined above but also additional charges including those for books, York Parents’ Association membership, cafeteria charges, supplies, cultural and sporting activities, etc. These charges are due upon receipt of a statement.
To access your latest Statement of Account in YorkNet, click on the Billing tab. From the drop down menu, select “Statements” and then view details for “Previous Statement”.
Interest
Tuition is due based on the above payment dates. However, if you have unpaid incidental balances interest is charged at 1.25% per month (15% per annum) statement balances remaining unpaid for more than a month. Students with fees unpaid at the end of one term will not be permitted to return for the next term unless suitable payment arrangements have been made.
Responsibility for Full Payment of Fees
To plan the operating budget, the school establishes fees and makes contractual commitments in advance of the academic year. Therefore, withdrawals prior to or during the school year are subject to cancellation fees.
The York School reserves the right to suspend or dismiss any student whose scholarship, behavior or cooperation is, in the opinion of the Head of School, detrimental to the standards of the school. In the event of a student’s suspension, dismissal, withdrawal or absence from the school for any reason, the parents or guardians are liable for payment of the fees.
Online Payment
Through most major banks, you are able to set up The York School as a payee to enable the payment of tuition online. Set up the “York School” as a payee and then use the last five digits of your child’s student account.
Wire Transfer
Payments can also be made by wire transfer by contacting the business office for the transit information. Please note that you will also be responsible for all transfer charges.
Installment Plan
Payment of the May and September fee installments can be made over ten months via direct electronic bank debits commencing May 1, 2024. There is a nominal charge for this service detailed on the Monthly Installment Plan form. Note: If you would like to sign up for the Monthly Installment Plan, please complete the Monthly Installment Plan form which you would have received with the “Offer of Place” package, or please find it HERE.
We prefer to receive your payments electronically, however, if you must make a cheque payment, cheques can be dropped off in the reception lobby of the Middle/Senior school or mailed to 1320 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON M4T 1X2.
Credit Card
Credit card payments through Plastiq can be made with most major credit cards. Go to https://request.plastiq.com/pay-the-york-school and register. Please note that payments may take 3-5 business days to process and that a service fee of 2.9% will be applied.
Withdrawal & Tuition Refund Policy
If a student withdraws subsequent to registration, the following refund policy applies:
After February 5, 2024 - There is no refund of the first instalment fee ($5,000.00).
June 1 to June 30, 2024 - One-half of the second instalment fee will be refunded.
After July 1, 2024 - There is no refund of tuition fees.
The school reserves the right to terminate the enrolment of a student at any time. Depending on the circumstances, fees may be prorated to the date of termination.
Tax Receipting Information
Child Care Receipt
A child care receipt is issued for a student if the child was under 16 years of age at some time during the calendar year. If your child attended Extended Care, the fees will be included on the child care receipt.
T4A
The York School must issue a T4A to a student who has received financial assistance or scholarships. Please check with the Canada Revenue Agency and your personal tax advisor as to how these amounts should be treated for tax purposes.
T2202
A T2202 will be issued to students in respect of tuition fees paid to The York School in 2022 for Higher Level courses in the school’s International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
Please contact your personal tax advisor for more information on the above tax receipts.
Financial Assistance
The York School has limited funds available for financial assistance. Applications for financial assistance are made through Apple Financial. The school requests that applications for financial assistance be submitted to Apple Financial by December 1st of each year.
