Middle School Courses & Textbooks

In Middle School, students study 9-10 subjects. All students in Grades 6-8 take English, Humanities, Math, Science, French, PE, Art/ Design, Performing Arts/Music. In Grades 7 and 8, students have the opportunity to take an elective course. Students choose one of either Drama, Mandarin, Coding, or Learning Strategies.

Elective courses are designed to expand learning interests and provide an opportunity to explore a new subject area.

You can access the 2024-2025 Grade 7 and 8 Course Selection Form via your YorkNet account. On this form, there is a description of the courses. Elective courses consist of 5 single classes per 10-day cycle.

Please speak with your child to help them decide on an elective that best reflects their interests. Only one parent needs to complete the form for your family. The form is due May 14, 2024.

Late submissions may result in a child’s second choice. Grade 7 and 8 course electives will be communicated in the last week of August on the student’s timetable. An email will be sent to parents alerting them of the ability to download the timetable.
